Years ago I realized I was going, having to go to the bathroom more often than I probably should be. And it was so uncomfortable, I can't tell you. It literally ruled my life. When I had to go, I had to go. I would wake up wet. I seemed to be tired all the time. I certainly wasn't sleeping as well. I had catheter and saw and when they pulled it, it didn't resolve itself. I watched him go through the humiliation and the discomfort. Uncomfortable and in some cases scared. It started getting worse. It got really intense. I got to the point where I said, please don't drink water before you go to bed at night. As the years went on, it just got increasingly worse. I started wearing a diaper type of thing. Your way of life is just not good at all. And then one day, I couldn't urinate. I had to go to the emergency room. When you have urinary retention, that's emergent. That's an emergency. You know, I love my husband dearly, and I realized that he did have a problem. With my whole life, the way it was going, having to wear a pad at night, not knowing whether I was going to wake up or whether it was going to be a problem in the morning that had to be cleaned up. I had an elevated BPH and an enlarged prostate. There wasn't anything I could do to say to him to make him feel any better about what was going on. It was very embarrassing. I knew I had to do something. So then I went on Abidar. And he put me on some medication. Pills and more pills and more pills. Didn't work. And what I didn't like was the options that were available. Or a RF radiofrequency ablation. Every answer is a band aid. And all of these, when I looked at, had side effects. It just, it was a nightmare. It was awful. At that point, I decided something has got to be done, and particularly when it started interfering with my sexual life. Something needs to be done for him to put him back to where he used to be. And I got a mailing from Doctor. Blick saying he was having a seminar on the UroLift. There's a new procedure that's recently been approved in the United States, and that's UroLift. Doctor. Eagins is probably one of the greatest doctors I've ever been around. And it was just like, bam. When he explained that there was a new procedure out there that he would use on me and he knew it would work. This was an absolute godsend for us men. It just made a world of difference. I'm profoundly grateful to have had the opportunity to do this procedure. I am truly feel blessed with it. In fact, two weeks after having the procedure done, I was able to travel to Colorado. As far as recovery goes, there was no recovery. Everything was just like it should have been for years, normal. I had some normalcy back in my life. It was excellent. I really do feel I've got a new lease of life. I can do things that I would be scared of doing before. And over the next year, it just has continued to get better. And I knew I had accomplished what I was here to do. It just created a whole brand new world for me. It's just a totally awesome experience. So I'm getting up one time a night now where it had been four and five times a night every hour and a half. This is just amazing, it is a blessing, it is so simple to do and it is so effective. You cannot believe how you feel afterwards. Night and day difference in my quality of life. And I continue to improve for several months actually and it's been great ever since. It came out perfect. And this turned out to be better than I had possibly anticipated. Why the hell did I not do this beforehand? Life is different. The results were absolutely amazing considering that we had been together for thirty nine years. I thought I was ninety nine.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What is recovery like after the UroLift procedure? Will I need medication or a catheter?
There is minimal downtime post-treatment and many patients experience symptom relief in as early as 2 weeks.1,2 The most common side effects may include blood in the urine, some pain or discomfort when urinating, some increased urge to go and discomfort in the pelvis that typically resolve within two to four weeks after the procedure.2 Medications are not typically required after recovering from the UroLift treatment.3 Your doctor may prescribe short-term medications such as pain relievers or antibiotics depending on your individual needs. However, about 9 out of 10 patients treated with UroLift did not require BPH medications at 5 years.2
Typically, no catheter is required after treatment, but some men may require a catheter after the procedure to help drain the bladder and assist in the healing process.1,2 Please discuss this with your urologist prior to your UroLift procedure.
