Full Practice Integration
Successful practices recognize that everyone from the receptionist to the medical assistant can play a vital role in the patient experience. Educate staff on the importance of integrating IPSS questionnaires into the practice to help patients understand their baseline, disease progression, and intervention impacts.
- What – integrate IPSS into the practice for all male patients age 45+
- Why – identify patients with BPH, understand the severity of their symptoms and measure their progress
- How – develop a plan to successfully implement IPSS and follow up on results
- Educate – inform patients so they understand their bladder health better and can effectively engage in shared decision making
Patient Education
It’s important to help patients learn about their bladder health and BPH symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment options, including the UroLift™ System procedure, so they can effectively engage in shared decision making. Cystoscopy is now recommended by the AUA Guidelines,1 yet a 2020 survey revealed the following2:
of men surveyed had never heard of a cystoscopy2
were willing to undergo it after reading the description below2
“If your doctor could perform a brief diagnostic prostate examination in their office to determine the cause of your symptoms and best treatment options and it was covered by your insurance, how willing would you be to undergo that examination?"
Additionally, in a recent study, participants preferred a direct-to-cystoscopy approach in their clinical pathway, rather than having a consultation appointment before cystoscopy.3
Potential benefits of cystoscopy include improved patient selection, ability to assess patients' procedure tolerability, and enabling patients to see their anatomy to effectively engage in shared decision making.
